In the sports coaching area I was reviewing research recently that verbalizing - either what athletes are doing, or paraphrasing coaching instructions/feedback -- speeds athlete learning vs. just listening to the coach, or thinking. Talking to yourself ... is NOT crazy!

Not crazy at all! You're right, the sports coaching world is full of solid data about the benefits of talking to yourself. I wrote this book to show why talking to yourself works and why benefits of talking show up in many seemingly unrelated areas of our lives. I wanted the researchers in these separate areas to...TALK to each other!

Maryellen MacDonald, over the years, I've found that the conversations I have with myself, in my head, or often out loud, are among the most useful, productive & interesting conversations that I'm engaged with. At least, while I may surprise & even shock myself, I'm never offended by what I say!

Or am I well on the road to dementia now, at 80 + years old ! ? I am now unable to stop this strange habit, and I do believe this is my way of maintaining FOCUS , in order to complete any present task. Thank you for allowing this question, and any reply and opinion is very welcome.
